ECDC serves as the central hub for disease control and prevention across the European Union, analyzing and interpreting data from EU countries on 52 communicable diseases and conditions using the European Surveillance System. The agency provides non-binding science-based recommendations for disease management and control, coordinates training programs including the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training and the European Programme for Public Health Microbiology Training, and organizes the annual ESCAIDE scientific conference. The organization employs approximately 290 staff members and works closely with EU institutions, national health bodies, public health professionals, researchers, and international organizations to detect emerging threats and support outbreak preparedness across Europe.
