Egypt’s Mediterranean region ports serve as vital gateways for international trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Other Egypt Mediterranean Region ports, beyond Alexandria and Port Said, include El Dekheila, Damietta, and El-Arish. These ports are strategically located along Egypt’s northern coastline, providing vital access to Mediterranean shipping routes and supporting regional trade. Damietta ranks among Egypt’s largest ports, handling over 1.3 million TEU annually, while El-Arish serves as Sinai’s main Mediterranean port with a capacity of around 1 million TEU. These ports play a crucial role in Egypt’s logistics network, supporting container, bulk, and general cargo operations.
Other Egypt Mediterranean region ports feature multi-purpose terminals for general cargo, bulk, and containers. Key facilities include Alexandria’s extensive quays for general cargo, dry and liquid bulk, and containers, with a TEU capacity of 500,000. Damietta offers specialized gas, petrochemical, grain, and bulk terminals, equipped with super-post Panamax cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, and automated conveyor systems. These ports utilize advanced cargo handling equipment, including mobile cranes and AGVs, supporting efficient operations and high throughput.
Egypt’s Mediterranean region container terminals outside Alexandria, Port Said, and Damietta include El Dekheila, which has several berths and a capacity exceeding 700,000 TEU annually. These terminals feature modern infrastructure, moderate automation with advanced cranes, and efficient cargo handling systems. Major operators include Egyptian government authorities and international logistics companies. Automation is increasing but remains below full automation levels seen in global hubs. Berth numbers and capacities vary by port, typically ranging from 2 to 6 berths per terminal.
Egypt’s other Mediterranean ports—such as El Arish, Abu Qir, and Dekheila—complement major hubs like Alexandria, Damietta, and Port Said. These ports are connected via Egypt’s national rail and highway networks, serving the Nile Delta, Cairo, and broader North African hinterland. They link to key shipping routes through the Mediterranean, Suez Canal, and Red Sea, facilitating direct access to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia’s major markets.
All Other Egypt Mediterranean Region Ports collectively handled approximately 3.6 million TEU in 2024, excluding Port Said, Alexandria, and Damietta. These ports are not individually ranked in the global top 50. The number of berths varies by port, typically ranging from 10 to 30 per port. Combined port areas generally range from 1 to 5 square kilometers each. Major global shipping lines such as Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, and COSCO operate regular services to these ports.
