Port Overview

Cambodia’s main ports are Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, and Kampot. Sihanoukville Deep-Sea Port, located on the Gulf of Thailand, is the largest and most important, handling over 630,000 TEUs annually and serving as the country’s primary gateway for international trade. Phnom Penh Port, situated on the Mekong River in the capital, is the second largest, with an annual TEU capacity of around 275,000, crucial for inland and regional connectivity. Kampot Port is smaller, focused on regional trade, and supports local economic activity. These ports are strategically vital for Cambodia’s economic growth and regional integration.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Cambodia’s main ports are Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS), Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP), and the new Kampot deep-sea port. PAS is the only deep-sea port, featuring multiple container and general cargo terminals, gantry cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, reach stackers, and automated yard systems. PPAP, the primary river port, has container and bulk terminals with quay cranes and modern yard equipment. The new Kampot port will add multipurpose berths and modern cargo handling facilities. Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are not yet widely deployed.

Sihanoukville is the largest container terminal, with several berths and a current annual capacity of 700,000 TEUs, expanding to 2.58 million TEUs by 2029. Phnom Penh port has 5 container berths and handles river traffic. Automation is moderate, with modern equipment but limited full automation. Major operators include Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port.
