Balboa’s annual container throughput is around 2.6 to 2.9 million TEUs, with ongoing expansions aiming to increase its capacity and maintain its regional significance.
Balboa, Panama’s main port facilities include five container berths equipped with 25 quay cranes (10 Post Panamax, 8 Panamax, and 7 Super Post Panamax) and over 47 rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) for yard operations. The port handles containerized, general, Ro-Ro, dry and liquid bulk cargo, and offers 3,612 reefer connections. It features direct rail connectivity for transshipment and efficient cargo movement but does not currently use automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
