Port Overview

Bridgetown, located on the southwest coast of Barbados at Carlisle Bay, is the island’s principal seaport and only commercial port. Though relatively small in size, it is strategically vital, handling about 90% of Barbados’s imports and exports and serving as a major Southern Caribbean cruise hub. The port manages approximately 100,000 TEUs annually and over 1 million tonnes of cargo. Facilities & Infrastructure

Bridgetown, Barbados’s main port facilities include the Deep Water Harbour with four deepwater quays accommodating up to six vessels, separate cruise and cargo terminals, and dedicated berths for containerized and bulk cargo. The port is equipped with container cranes, mobile harbor cranes, and forklifts for efficient cargo handling. While AGVs are not currently in use, the port features modern amenities, customs, immigration, and health services, supporting both cruise and commercial operations.

Container Terminals

Bridgetown, Barbados’s container terminal features six berths, with the newest Berth 6 offering 314 meters in length and advanced infrastructure. The port handles over 90,000 TEUs annually and has a container stacking area of 25,000 m². Automation includes electric-powered ship-to-shore gantry cranes and straddle carriers. Major operator is Barbados Port Inc., overseeing all terminal activities and equipment upgrades. The port is not fully automated but features modern handling systems.
