Buenaventura is Colombia’s main Pacific port, located on Cascajal Island in the Valle del Cauca department. It is the largest container port on the Pacific coast of Colombia and ranks among the country’s top ports by cargo volume. Strategically positioned, Buenaventura handles about 60% of Colombia’s seaborne trade, serving as a vital gateway for imports and exports to Asia and the Americas. The port has an annual container throughput of approximately 1.2 million TEUs, making it a key hub in Latin American maritime logistics.

Facilities handle containers, dry and liquid bulk, breakbulk, and coal. Equipment includes ship-to-shore gantry cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs), and extensive storage areas. The port does not currently operate automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

Buenaventura serves as Colombia's primary Pacific port, handling 43% of the country's containerized cargo with direct connections to 50 ports worldwide. The port provides access to 13 countries in the Americas, 17 Asian nations, and 19 South Pacific countries, making it a crucial gateway for Pacific Basin trade. It serves 65% of Colombia's domestic market and connects efficiently to major cities including Bogotá and Cali through modern road networks. Major shipping lines including Maersk, CMA CGM, and Hapag-Lloyd operate regular services from the port.
