Facilities & Infrastructure

Gioia Tauro, Italy’s largest container port, features a main container terminal operated by MedCenter Container Terminal with about 3,400 meters of quay and 1.6 million square meters of yard space. Key facilities include 22 ship-to-shore cranes (post-panamax and super post-panamax), automated stacking cranes, straddle carriers, and advanced container tracking systems. The port also offers extensive reefer storage, a car terminal, Ro-Ro docks, and supports ultra-large container vessels with deep-water berths.

Container Terminals

Gioia Tauro’s container terminal features approximately 3.4 km of linear quay with 7 main berths, a water depth of 18 meters, and can handle over 3.9 million TEU annually. The terminal is semi-automated, utilizing advanced cranes and hundreds of straddle carriers. Major operations are managed by Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT), a subsidiary of MSC’s Terminal Investment Limited, which continues to invest in further automation and capacity expansion.
