    Port Overview

Goa is India’s smallest state by area, located on the southwestern coast along the Arabian Sea, bordered by Maharashtra and Karnataka. Covering 3,702 square kilometers, it ranks last in size among Indian states. Strategically, Goa’s port at Mormugao is a key gateway for iron ore exports and maritime trade on the west coast. The port handles an annual container throughput of approximately 50,000 TEU, serving as a regional hub for bulk and containerized cargo.

    Facilities & Infrastructure

Goa’s main port, Mormugao, features key terminals for iron ore, coal, general cargo, and a new cruise terminal. Cargo facilities include mechanized ore handling plants, multi-purpose berths, and dedicated container and oil terminals. The port is equipped with modern cranes, including ship-to-shore and mobile harbor cranes, and upgraded handling equipment. While AGVs are not currently in use, ongoing investments focus on expanding capacity, improving logistics, and enhancing cruise and cargo operations.

    Container Terminals

Goa’s main container handling facility is at Mormugao Port, which currently has one dedicated container berth. The port’s container terminal is operated by Adani Mormugao Terminal and features a 300-meter berth with a 14.5-meter draft. The terminal’s annual capacity is modest, primarily serving feeder vessels, and it is semi-automated with mechanized cargo handling systems. Major operators include Adani Ports and the Mormugao Port Authority.
