    Port Overview

    Hai Phong is Vietnam’s third largest city, located on the northeastern coast near the mouth of the Cam River, about 100 km east of Hanoi. As the principal seaport of northern Vietnam, Hai Phong is a critical gateway for international trade and logistics, serving the Red River Delta and connecting to southwestern China. The port complex is among the busiest in the country, with an annual container throughput exceeding 5 million TEU, underscoring its strategic importance for both national and regional commerce.

    Hai Phong Port features several key terminals, including the new Hateco Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT) with two deep-water berths and a 900-meter wharf, capable of handling vessels up to 18,000 TEU. Facilities include advanced cargo handling systems, 10 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, 36 electric rubber-tyred gantry (e-RTG) cranes, and 1,350 refrigerated container sockets. The port uses smart technologies like the NAVIS N4 system, OCR, and a Truck Appointment System, but does not currently deploy AGVs.

The HHIT terminal features 2 berths with a 900-meter main wharf, handling up to 2.2 million TEUs annually, and is highly automated with advanced systems like NAVIS N4, OCR, and a Truck Appointment System. TC-HICT has 2 deep-water berths, 750 meters total, with a 1.1 million TEU capacity. Major operators include Hateco Group, APM Terminals, Saigon Newport, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Wan Hai Lines, and Itochu Group.
