Tanjung Pelepas is located in Johor, southern Malaysia, near the Strait of Malacca, a key global shipping lane. As Malaysia’s largest transshipment hub, it ranks 16th worldwide and is among the top five most efficient container ports globally. Its strategic position enables rapid connections between major East-West shipping routes. In 2024, Tanjung Pelepas achieved a record annual throughput of over 12 million TEUs, making it the first Malaysian port to surpass this milestone and reinforcing its role as a vital gateway for international trade in Southeast Asia.
Tanjung Pelepas features 14 dedicated container berths with a 5.04 km linear wharf and one of the region’s largest container yards, handling up to 10.5 million TEU annually. The port is equipped with 54 Super Post Panamax quay cranes, 180 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, and 350 prime movers. Advanced cargo facilities support efficient transshipment, and the port’s integrated design enables rapid vessel turnaround and high productivity.
Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia’s main container terminal, has 14 berths with a total annual capacity of 12.5 million TEU. The terminal features high automation with advanced IT systems and is equipped with over 58 Super Post-Panamax cranes. Major operators include a joint venture between APM Terminals and MMC Group. The port is recognized for its efficiency, deepwater access, and ongoing expansion to increase capacity and automation.
