    Overview

The Port of Fernandina is a deepwater port located on Amelia Island along Florida’s Atlantic coast. Managed by the Ocean Highway & Port Authority of Nassau County and operated by Nassau Terminals LLC, it serves as a critical gateway for both imports and exports in the Southeastern United States. The port is a vital conduit for over fourteen pulp and paper producers in the region and provides essential terminal services for a wide range of industries, including forestry, steel, machinery, and auto parts. The Port of Fernandina connects to key international markets in the Caribbean and South America, including regular container service to destinations such as Colombia, Venezuela, Bermuda, and other Caribbean islands. Significant recent investments have modernized port infrastructure, increased berth depths to 40 feet MLW, and expanded warehousing, making the port more competitive for a diverse mix of cargo—from containers and break-bulk forestry products to specialized building materials. Its role in regional economic development is significant, supporting nearby industries, providing jobs, and helping to facilitate short-sea shipping as part of the federal M-95 Marine Highway corridor.
