The Port of Redwood City is the only deep-water port in the South San Francisco Bay, strategically located 18 nautical miles south of San Francisco between the city and Silicon Valley. Originating from a natural deepwater channel found in 1850, the port has developed into a specialized facility for handling bulk, neo-bulk, and liquid cargo. The port encompasses 120 acres of industrial and commercial property, ideally positioned for excellent multimodal transport with direct access to U.S. Highway 101 and Union Pacific Railroad. Over the decades, annual freight shipments have reached upwards of two million metric tons, supporting industries across the Bay Area. The Port also maintains significant public access and recreational amenities, including a municipal marina and launch ramp, while fostering an environment that protects critical wetlands and habitat areas. Uniquely, it is considered the birthplace of shipbuilding on the North American west coast and continues to be a hub for regional maritime commerce, construction materials, and energy products.
